Workshop Description
The Afro-contemporary dance choreography and improvisation workshop begins with multi-sensory stimulation, involving movement, speech, gazes, and listening. This approach establishes a connection with one’s own body and that of others, leading to the discovery of new body-expressive insights. The process progressively intensifies, ultimately fostering the most important sensation: the freedom of expression. The journey progresses from feeling to communicating, from immersing in movement quality and traditional techniques to learning to build a connection with music, rhythm, and musicians. The musician Cheikh Sadibou Fall will play live during the workshop.
Short bio
Born in Turin, Simona Brunelli began studying dance at the age of six. After seven years of classical dance, she dedicated five years to modern and contemporary dance with Enrica Patrito. Awarded scholarships, she moved to Rome to join the Compagnia di Roma, led by Renato Greco. Returning to Turin in 1995, Simona developed a passion for African dance, becoming the lead dancer in the Compagnia Kaidara, directed by Katina and Bruno Genero. In 1998, she moved to Paris to dance with the Compagnia Eben, directed by Irene Tassembedo, touring various African countries and performing in events like the Fespaco Ouagadougou cinema opening in Burkina Faso and at the Cultural Center in Lomè, Togo. Her diverse experiences influenced her to create a unique style, leading to invitations to dance festivals in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and an intensive workshop in Dakar, Senegal.
